What would be great is if they could take advantage of the new reliance on jw.org to hack the site and replace magazine download links with redirects to 587v607 infographics or something. But just the idea of turning JWs into a meme should ensure that the younger generation will only see the organazation as a joke and further destroy any chance of continued growth.

An elder's wife used to pick up an older sister who needed two crutches to get around (slowly. one of her hips was missing) but transferred the duty to us when the elder moved only a few houses down from the Hall. Her house was about three times away from us as the Hall. And if my wife was sick and stayed home the sister wouldn't ride with just me (our cong. was REALLY strict on the no co-ed carsharing).

staying a witness
by J. Hofer inthe other day i overheard a conversation about jws and somebody said jws don't celebrate birthdays.
the other one said he has a few friends who are jws and while they don't celebrate their own birthdays, they do celebrate his.... then a thought crossed my mind: what if those of us who did not switch to another religion and have a somewhat non-jw lifestyle (not that hard) just keep saying we are jws?
given that there should be more ex-jws than jws by now, how would that influence the public view of jws?.

If you try that you'll probably get a cease and desist letter right before a team of lawyers show up to tell you that you're infringing on their brand.

Aliens/Demons
by DATA-DOG injust curious, am i the only one who considers the possibility that " demons " may be " aliens".
or that aliens are other races who have sided with demons, and that we are going to see some serious " war of the worlds " stuff, vaporization included?
maybe there are other races of beings giving the governments help or influencing them?

Considering that most demon "attacks" involve flying furniture, being sat on, or hiding car keys, I don't think aliens would make any more sense than demons -- either way, it would call for an advanced being to just hang around doing dumb pranks.

I told my daughter I was leaving "the truth" this weekend.
by whathappened inlast week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.

this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.

I wonder how much he really believed of JW teachings and how much was just pretending... like did he think his family would get a resurrection and he was doing them a favor? Did he believe, as a DF, that God was about to kill him (soon!) so he might as well live it up? How much did his JWness play into his actions do you think?

Old People ask....?

question # 1) why dont my children come see me any more?.

I Want to Believe
...Since my life has been stagnant for 50 years and I put off having children and have no house or retirement and sacrificed everything for Jehovah -- why does He still demand the pointless gesture of 15 minutes of time a month for me to remain in His favor?

Current policy regarding child molesters
by loosie ini brought up the conti case with a newly x- jw and they said that the child molestion policy was changed in 90's as far as elders reporting to the authorities.
so my question is what was the policy changed from and what did it change to?
and what is the most current letter that we have a copy of regarding the reporting policy?

I Want to Believe
I think this says it all, from one of the WT's filing in the Conti case:
"The elders had no legal duty to report the incident to the authorities, because the law at that time did not require ministers to do so. In addition, this confession by Kendrick was received by the elders in the course of the discipline and practice of the Jehovah's Witness faith and was intended to be kept confidential... The Church Defendants assert that, even if received today, that confession by Kendrick would be privileged." (emphasis added)

@Band on the Run: You're not getting it. She wasn't polarizing before she was nominated, she didn't play hard partisan politics until after she was selected. If McCain never picked her she would've gone done in history as a capable non-threatening governor that most people liked and a few didn't, with no strong feelings either way. AFTER the nomination, not only did SHE turn hard right, but suddenly all these people appeared who just HATED her in Alaska, people who never spoke up until after Palin was in the spotlight. The NYT and WSJ can report on people's feelings after the fact but if they were talking to people before hand they would've gotten a different perspective.

Has Anyone Seen "Prometheus"?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini loved it!

Well, you still have the problem, as said in the movie even, of where did the Engineers come from? "Poof! There's an alien!"
